# Posts and stories

> Publish a queue of posts and keep your stories fresh from the vault, on a gap you choose.

Two automations keep the creator's wall and stories active without posting by hand. Both publish to the wall or the story rail only. Neither ever sends a message. For how automations run in general, see [how automations work](https://docs.onlystack.com/automations/overview.md).

Both pace themselves: the gap you set between one publication and the next is the schedule, so there is no separate **Runs every** box.

## Post queue

Posts a list you prepared, one post at a time, in the order you put them, with the gap you choose.

### Set it up

**1. Add the posts**

Open **Edit automation**. Under **Content**, press **+ Add a post** for each one. Write the caption in the box, then choose what goes with it. Move a post up or down to change the order.

**2. Choose the gap**

Under **Schedule**, set **Publish every (minutes)**. To run the list again, set **Repeat list after (hrs)** and **How many times to repeat**.

**3. Test, then save and enable**

**Dry run**, under **Test mode**, checks the content and schedule without publishing. When you are happy, press **Save and enable**.

### Settings for each post

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| Caption | The text of the post. |
| **Price** | Fans pay this to unlock the post. Leave it at 0 for a free post. |
| **Images** | **All in one post** puts every attached image in one post. **One post per image** gives each image a post of its own. |
| **Max per post** | The most images one post can hold. Leave it blank to post every attached image. It shows when **Images** is **All in one post**. |
| **Delete after** | Removes the post this many hours after it goes up. Leave it blank to keep it. |
| **Random photos from a folder** | Each run picks random photos from this vault folder. Leave it on none to use only the media you pick. |
| **How many from the folder** | How many random items are taken from the folder. Media you pick yourself is added on top. It shows once a folder is chosen. |
| **Photos and videos** | Media from your vault that goes out with the post. |
| **Free previews** | Which of the media above fans can see for free before they pay. It shows once the post has a price. |

### Settings for the whole queue

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Publish every (minutes)** | The time between one publication and the next. |
| **Repeat list after (hrs)** | When the last post has gone out, wait this long and start the list over. Leave it blank for no repeat. |
| **How many times to repeat** | Extra runs through the list. At 0 it never repeats, even with a wait set above. It shows once **Repeat list after (hrs)** is set. |
| **Dry run** | Check the content and schedule without publishing. |

### What it never does

* It never posts an empty queue. With nothing in the list, nothing is posted.
* It never lets one bad post stop the rest. A post that cannot go out is skipped and the list carries on.
* It never sends a message. It posts to the wall only.
* It never puts explicit or unscanned media on a post. See [what goes on a post or story](#what-goes-on-a-post-or-story).

## 24/7 Story

Posts photos from the vault as stories on a schedule, so the story rail is never empty. Optionally it deletes each story again after a few hours.

### Set it up

**1. Choose the photos**

Open **Edit automation**. Under **Content**, choose a **Vault folder** to post random photos from, or pick **Selected photos**, which are used when no folder is set.

**2. Choose how many and how often**

Set **Photos per cycle**, **Images per story** and **Publish every (minutes)**. Set **Auto-delete after (hrs)** if you want each story to come down early.

**3. Test, then save and enable**

**Dry run** checks the content and schedule without publishing. When you are happy, press **Save and enable**.

### Settings

| Setting | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Vault folder** | Choose a folder for random photos, or leave it unset to use your selected photos. |
| **Selected photos** | Used when no vault folder is selected. |
| **Photos per cycle** | The total number of photos to publish across one cycle, not how many go up at once. |
| **Images per story** | Use 1 for a single photo in each story. Raise it to put several in one story. |
| **Publish every (minutes)** | The time between one story and the next. |
| **Auto-delete after (hrs)** | Deletes each story this many hours after it goes up. Leave it blank to keep the normal story lifetime. |
| **Dry run** | Check the content and schedule without publishing. |

### What it never does

* It never sends a message. Stories only.
* It never posts explicit or unscanned photos. See below.
* It never repeats a photo within one cycle. Each photo is picked once.

## What goes on a post or story

A post or story is public to every subscriber, so photos and videos are checked first. Media goes on one only if the vault scan has described it and not rated it **Explicit** or **Hardcore**, and has not seen the creator fully naked. Anything the scan rated that way, or has not looked at yet, is left out. A post or story left with no media is not published, and the run reads **Skipped: the photos picked show nudity or have not been scanned yet**. A folder with nothing cleared in it reads **Skipped: no photo in the folder has been scanned and cleared as not nude**.

A price on a post does not change this.

The vault scan comes with the Pro plan. If your agency is on Plus, every item stays unscanned and is always left out, so **24/7 Story** never publishes and **Post queue** publishes text only. See the [vault](https://docs.onlystack.com/desktop-app/vault.md#ai-scan).
