# Assistant access modes

> Choose how much the workspace assistant can do and review changes before they run.

Open the assistant in [the web workspace](https://app.onlystack.com). Select the relevant creator when your request concerns a creator account, then describe the result you want.

## Choose an access mode

The modes available in your conversation depend on your role and the workspace owner's access settings.

| Mode | Behavior |
| - | - |
| Read only | The assistant can look up information; it cannot make changes. |
| Can edit | The assistant can make permitted changes. Actions that require approval show an approval request. |
| Full access | Permitted changes can run without asking for approval. |

New conversations start in **Read only**. Chatters cannot use a mode above **Can edit**, and workspace settings can further restrict team access.

## Review an approval request

Read the proposed action and check the creator, audience, content, and any price before approving. Decline it if the proposed action does not match your request. Ask the assistant to revise the action when needed.

## Make requests clear

Specify the creator, time period, and outcome. For example: "Show me this creator's recent transactions for the past week." For a change, say exactly what should change and who it should affect.

If the assistant reports that an action is unavailable, check your permissions, plan, and selected access mode. Requests that use AI also require [AI credits](/billing/plans-and-credits).
