# Watching and steering AI Chat

> See what the AI team is doing, take a chat over, hand it back, and get a Telegram message when a chat needs a person.

You do not have to watch AI Chat all day. It tells you when it needs a person, and you can step into any chat when you want to.

## Is it running

On the **Agents** screen, the **AI Chat** switch shows its state beside it: **On**, **Off** or **Not set up**. Next to it a second line says whether it can really work:

| Line | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **All systems good** | AI Chat is on and nothing is missing. |
| **Needs attention** | AI Chat is on but something is wrong. See [troubleshooting](https://docs.onlystack.com/agents/troubleshooting.md). |
| **Chatter shift until …** | AI Chat is on, and the agents rest until her chatter shift ends. See [chatter shifts](https://docs.onlystack.com/agents/configuration.md#chatter-shifts). |
| **Sleep time until …** | AI Chat is on, and the agents rest until she wakes. |
| **AI Chat is off** | The switch is off. |
| **Checking…** | It is still looking. |

Something that needs attention shows ahead of a shift or her sleep time.

Pick an agent in the list and its settings show on the page. **Save** saves that agent only, and **Fill in all defaults** types the built-in value into every empty box. There is no switch for one agent: they are all on exactly while **AI Chat** is.

## Logs

**Logs** is its own screen, the last in the strip at the top of **AI Chat**: **Dashboard**, **Configuration**, **Agents**, **Scripts**, **Logs**. It is the full feed of what the agents did for the creator you are working as: what a fan sent, what the AI made of it, and what went out.

* Filter it by agent.
* Choose a time range: **All time**, **Last 24 hours**, **Last 7 days** or **Last 30 days**.
* Press **Load more** for older rows.

A run that failed says so in a plain sentence, and the agent tries again on its next check. See [troubleshooting](https://docs.onlystack.com/agents/troubleshooting.md#a-run-failed).

Logs is part of the Pro plan, like the agents; on another plan it shows an upgrade note. It is not locked behind **Configuration**, so you can read past logs even after a reset.

## The Dashboard

The [Dashboard](https://docs.onlystack.com/desktop-app/dashboard.md) is where to start. **Needs you now** lists chats waiting for a person, custom requests your team owes, and creators whose agents cannot reply. The rest of the page says how the AI team did over the period you pick: hand-offs, custom requests, what each agent sent and how fast fans got a reply.

## In a chat

In **Chats**, a row names the agent that has the fan, for example **Sales Agent**. Open the chat and the **Control** tag beside his name says who has it. See [work with chats](https://docs.onlystack.com/desktop-app/chats.md).

Under the fan's name a line says what the AI is doing with him. It leads with a phrase when the AI is not simply working: **Stopped on this chat**, **Resting on this chat** or **Talking, not selling**. Then it lists live facts, for example that an ask is open at a price, that the AI finished learning about him, how many tip rewards were sent, or that an online nudge went out and is taken back if he does not answer. Press **?** on the line for what each phrase means. **Hide** turns the line off for that creator on this computer. If the line cannot be read it says **AI status unavailable**.

### Take a chat over

Use the **…** menu and **Take over from AI**, or just reply: while **Replying takes over the chat** is on, a message you send takes the chat. **Hand back to AI** gives it back. **Let AI cover…** lends it for a while. The full rules, including when a chat goes back on its own, are in [hybrid mode](https://docs.onlystack.com/agents/hybrid-mode.md).

Agents never unsend a message, except the Engagement Agent's online nudge, which it takes back if he does not answer. Otherwise only a person can unsend, from the chat. See [how AI Chat works](https://docs.onlystack.com/agents/overview.md).

## Alerts on Telegram

The Dashboard always shows chats that need a person. You can also get a Telegram message. Open **Configuration** and its **Alerts** tab, headed **How should we tell you?**. The tab only shows for owners and managers, and when Telegram alerts are available.

Choose **AI Chat dashboard only** or **Telegram**. With **Telegram**:

**1. Link a chat**

Under **Link a new chat**, press **Send to me** for a private chat with the bot, or **Send to a group** for a team group. Telegram opens in your browser and the app shows **Waiting for Telegram…**.

**2. Finish in Telegram**

Follow Telegram's steps. The link is checked every few seconds. When it finishes, the line under the choices reads **Connected:** and the chat's name. If the link runs out first, the app says **The link ran out. Try again.**

**3. Use it for more creators**

**Send alerts to** picks which linked chat a creator uses. After you set one, **Use this for all creators** sets it for every creator on the agency.

**Remove this chat** takes the chat off the agency's list after asking. Every creator on it goes back to the dashboard only.

A message names the creator, the fan and the reason, never what the fan wrote, and ends with *Open OnlyStack › AI Chat › Dashboard.* It is sent when the AI hands a chat to a person, and when a custom request passes its deadline with nobody on it. When several come together they are grouped in one message, except the safety reasons, which are sent at once and alone.

If the bot is removed from the chat or blocked, the tab reads *Telegram is disconnected: the bot was removed or blocked. Link it again.* and the Dashboard lists the creator under **Creators to check**. Link it again to fix it.
